3D FILMS

3D Films - The Dome - Planetarium - FAQ

Each of the 3D films available for the Cosmodome delivers an educational message in an entertaining package. Films range in duration from 20 minutes to 30 minutes and while each film has an educational content suited to a specific age group, all films can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.

A total of 15 films are currently available for the Cosmodome with four of these currently being shown by SpaceTime astronomy. We intend to add to our repertoire on an ongoing basis.

Earth's Wild Ride - Length 21 minutes - Educational Content 6+

EWR

A movie that immerses audiences in a 3D tour of Earth's history and natural wonders. Set on the surface of the moon in the year 2081, the movie opens with a grandfather and his grandchildren gazing out into space. As they watch the moon's shadow move across Earth, the grandfather tells stories of crashing asteroids, erupting volcanoes, roaring dinosaurs, electrifying lighting and booming thunder. While learning about eclipses, the ice age, Earth's water cycle and the differences between Earth and moon, the audience is taken on a roller-coaster-like ride through canyons of raging rivers and hot flowing lava.

Oasis in Space - Length 25 minutes - Educational Content 10+

Oasis

Oasis in Space takes you on an incredible journey through the Solar System and beyond, as we search for water and ultimately life on other planets.  The audience is shown how the Earth and the solar systems were formed, before embarking on a journey to each of the planets and the major moons in the solar system.  Finally, the journey takes us beyond the Milky Way, and on to other galaxies as we continue the search for another “Oasis in Space”

Black Holes (The other Side of Infinity) - Length 23 minutes - Educational Content 10+

dino

Shown at planetariums throughout the world and narrated by Liam Neeson, “Black Holes – The Other Side of Infinity” is a cutting edge production, that takes you inside the most deadly object in the universe.  This film brings the science of black holes to the CosmoDome, and you will witness the birth of a black hole, journey past the event horizon, experience the birth of the Milky Way, and learn about the monstrous black hole that lurks at it’s core.  The film includes a demonstration of how gravity works, and how, when pushed to the extreme, it causes a black hole to form.  All effects and simulations in the film have been produced using the latest in scientific data.

Saturn - Lord of the Rings - Length 25 minutes - Educational Content 10+

saturn Saturn becomes the true “Lord of the Rings”. After nearly seven years in transit, the two-story Cassini-Huygens spacecraft orbited Saturn on July 1. Now, the portable dome theater opens Saturn, the Ring World, featuring the Cassini-Huygens mission. Cassini is exploring Saturn and its moons for four years, while the Huygens probe had landed on the surface of Titan, Saturn’s largest moon. The Cassini Saturn encounter began with a flyby of Saturn’s farthest moon, Phoebe. See Saturn up-close and all-around-you inside our dome theater.
