SCHOOL ASTRONOMY EXCURSIONS AND INCURSIONS

MOBILE TELESCOPE OBSERVATORY

Our mobile observatory uses the latest state-of-the-art, computer controlled telescopes, each capable of locating over 30,000 objects in the night sky. The mobile observatory is a fantastic school excursion or incursion and students will be given the opportunity to operate the telescopes and other astronomy equipment. 2009 is the international year of astronomy and a great opportunity for students to enjoy a hands on astronomy experience.

Join us for a journey through time and space. Fly over the surface of the moon and see ancient craters, see the rings of Saturn, the cloud bands of Jupiter and the ice caps of Mars. View remote galaxies over the vast distances of inter-galactic space, star clusters harboring a million Suns and massive gas nebulae where stars are being born even today.

The mobile observatory consists of a Meade 12" computer controlled LX90 telescope, a Meade 10" LX90 computer controlled telescope, 15 x 70 tripod mounted binoculars and hand held binoculars. The telescopes are complemented with a range of the very best lenses and filters ensuring the best possible view of the night sky.

As part of our school astronomy excursion or incursion, selected students will be instructed in the use of the telescopes and encouraged to operate them during the viewing session. The excursion will therefore give students the opportunity to not only learn about the night sky but to also learn how to operate the latest computer controlled telescopes.

The SpaceTime astronomy incursion or excursion can be tailored to meet the requirements of your school with observing sessions of varying duration. Setup can be on the school grounds or a local oval, sporting club or other suitable venue.
